We seek a highly self-motivated technical support person with some expertise in physics, computer science, acoustical and/or physical oceanography and electronics for a 1 year term commencing1 April 2021. The individual will assist with exciting research conducted by the MEOPAR Whales, Habitat and Listening Experiment project in the Oceanography Department at Dalhousie University ( The project is a partnership between the Whale Particle Fish Lab at Dalhousie University and the Davies Lab at the University of New Brunswick. The successful applicant will assist in testing, calibrating and developing processing code for active acoustic echosounders, optical plankton counters and other oceanographic gear. They will assist with the preparation and deployment of oceanographic equipment and participate in sea-going whale and oceanographic research cruises in summer-fall2021. This is a highly dynamic position requiring an energetic and self-motivated individual who is able to work effectively in a team.


A BScor BEng is the minimum educational requirement, and electronics experience is essential.Prior experience working with acoustic instruments, and/or oceanographic sensors, and/or autonomous vehicles, and/or undersea electronics, and willingness to participate in shipborne field work as needed, will be considered strong assets. Vessel safety and CPR training will be provided. Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
